Dear Dawn, Alison, and your families: My heartfelt sympathy for your loss. I will miss Char's friendship, her fantastic sense of humour shared with all of us at Wings, and her love of all God's creatures. The world seems emptier without her.

Eulogy for Charmaine Kozak
February 01, 2019

We are truly shocked and saddened on receiving the OPP call the evening of January 28, 2019, informing us of Charmaine’s sudden passing that day.

As a family, we have lost a daughter, a sister and an aunt. Over the years we shared the good times and the bad times, the fun times and the sad times.

In recent years, Charmaine experienced a marked change to her character and her personality, finding it a heavy burden coping with the loss of her beloved Mother, Helen, and the deterioration of her own personal health. I want to thank family members for their patience and understanding in helping Charmaine during these trying times.

I ask each of you to find it in your own heart to remember Charmaine in a positive and pleasant way. Charmaine enjoyed her volunteer work at Wings Wildlife Rehabilitation Center and the outdoors. For me, personally, I see a clear picture of Charmaine as a young girl with sparkling eyes and dimples on her smiling face.

Though it’s mystical, we truly hope Charmaine’s spirit has been re-united with her beloved Mother Helen and she has found eternal peace.

In closing, adieu Charmaine, God Bless You. We will miss you.

~ Allan Mason on behalf of the family.

Dear Charmaine

Another beautiful star has lit the night sky.

We are heart broken that you are gone. We miss you so much. But, we know you are happy and at peace and that you are with Mom. Dad wrote the most beautiful eulogy for you and spoke of your sparkling eyes and dimples. Dawn wrote such a lovely obituary in your honour. I picked out a poem that I thought was fitting, that had a background of blue and had a picture of wings, that was read for you at your graveside, entitled, 'I Am'. We played Vince Gill's 'Go Rest High on that Mountain' in the car on the way back from the grave and the next day when we visited your grave, we played Elton John's 'Candle in the Wind' at Dad's request - on my cell phone. You were so lovely. You helped any animal that needed rescuing or helping. You took them into your home and into your heart, or when volunteering at the Wing's Wildlife Rehab. Although you loved all animals, wolves and white tigers were so symbolic of you. I choose to remember you, sharing laughter and road trips to London for falafel and a trip to Birdie's Nest or to Belle River to watch the boats and the great road trip that you and Dawn and I took shopping in honour of Mom when she passed away or just sitting together watching a movie and so many other memories we shared along the way. You were a wonderful big sister.

We all love you so very much.
Love, Alison, Dawn&Greg, Dad, Colton, Marshall, Jason, Zachary

I Am

I am the wind in the trees
and the song of a bird.
I am moonbeams in a midnight sky
and a glorious rainbow after the storm
I am morning dew
and freshly-fallen snow.
I am a butterfly flying overhead
and a puppy happily at play.
I am a gentle touch
a warm embrace.
Open your heart to know...I am not gone.
Reach deep into your soul...You will find me.
I am here.
Have no fear, I am with you,
Always.

Charmaine was our niece and she was always very warm and kind. She loved her animals, and they loved her. We are thankful that she is at peace.

Charmaine was our cousin, she made us laugh, and will always be remembered. She loved her family, those with two legs, those with four legs or those with wings.
We will miss her.

Uncle Allan, Dawn, Greg, Alison, Colton, Marshall, Jason and Zachary,
We know you are all saddened by Charmaines passing, as are we, but we also know that you believe she is walking in heaven with her Mom and her beloved Chiquita. No more pain, no more struggles, just love and peace. What I choose to remember most about Charmaine was her sense of humour. When we were young, and running around at the cottage in Burleigh Falls, she was the one that always cracked us up with her impersonations.....I'm not sure who laughed more, Charmaine or us, her cousins. I cherish those memories.
With all of our love, Bev & Mike.
