I am heartbroken to hear of Ramon's passing! May you be consoled knowing that "Sonny" will see you all again. I met him during an art fair in Ann Arbor, Michigan way back in 2003. As I walked through the hundreds of exhibits, I came across his display, and was immediately struck by the artistry in glass that he made. As a graduate student, I could not afford such beautiful art, but I kept coming back to his display over and over, scheming how I could buy one of his beautiful Mermaid pieces. On my sixth return to his booth, I was disappointed that the piece I finally mustered the resolve to buy was already taken! But Ramon invited me to commission him directly, and so I asked for another piece with a Mermaid theme. He allowed me to pay him over time, and the result was the stunning horizontal "Mermaid and Joy of the Seas" he created, a piece I still have after four home moves of three combat deployments. I've attached an image of this piece, as well as an image of pieces he made for me based on sketches I provided him. I last reached out to him in 2014, never believing he would be taken so soon. Dear Romero family, know that Sonny lives on in his beautiful art, which is sprinkled across the USA, and likely across the world. I am proud to own original Romero art glass, which will be passed on to my children. God Bless you and God Bless Sonny, he was a gift to this world. - Very Respectfully, Rudy Quiles (now in Omaha, Nebraska)
